About the Band

Kristian and Andre first met back in 2004 when they accidently discovered they had a mutual friend in common that had attended similar events in the UK. Without knowing each other, it was in Cyprus that they bonded and discovered they equally appreciated hard rock and hip hop, and liked the idea of morphing them together to create a unique style.

Soon they started hanging out at Haninas, a bar in old Nicosia which is now closed. It was during Hanina’s open mic nights that Kristian and Andre would improvise music, play it freestyle and expand on each other’s appreciation and talent in music.

Eventually they formed a group and developed a rock covers band with other Haninas alumni which they named “the associates” and started performing live.

The name of the band (Sexual Chocolate) was inspired by Eddie Murphy’s film “Coming to America” (the Rick James style soul group that Eddie Murphy played in the movie was called Sexual Chocolate).

The band fuses old school hip hop with elements of rock reggae, drum and bass and funk, and rather than using the traditional method of the DJ providing the sounds, they elaborated on this concept and include live instrumentation in addition to the DJ. This allows them to draw from a wide range of artists and create their own style, all the while being influenced by Jamie Foxx , Rage Against the Machine , Eric B and Rakim , N.W.A , Cypres Hill, Bob Marley, John Holt , Gregory Issacs and Prodigy to name a few. 

This is how DJ Mike Wildcut came into the picture, not only because he was an established DJ but because he was himself in search of a band to be the yin to his yang. Ziad and Zeyn Mroueh crossed over from being “the associates” to fill in bass and guitar duties respectively and Kristian continued his drumming duties, between Andre, Kristian and Mike who constantly swap vocal duties and imprint their own signature style.

The future is unwritten and their future is just like their live shows, you never know what to expect and anything can happen. Stay tuned!..........
