Psychedelic Rock Party

Rite of Passage
‘A Psychedelic Rock Party’ Part II

rite_of_passage

The unique band returns with its second `Psychedelic Rock Party'. The first party was carried out very successfully at the same space (Tritos – Pantheon) in September 2009. This time, Rite of Passage host on stage the juvenile band of Isaac's Cello which many may recall from the Schoolwave festival, and promise a unique evening. The music of Rite of Passage is a psychedelic trip with unusual sound colours. Abundant melody and improvisations are executed with extreme intensity and determination from the three members of group, Marios Michail, Lefteris Moumtzis and Greek Dimitris Kakavouli. The group was formed in the winter of 2008 and soon enough they found their own pioneering sound based on psychedelic bands of the 60s and jazz rock and progressive rock bands of the 70s.

Rite of Passage came to existence out of mutual need. The band is influenced by the 60's psychedelic scene, 70's and progressive rock bands, early jazz-rock groups, several songwriters and has a general tendency towards a vintage sound and large improvised segments. More so however the passage is influenced by the circumstances and realities of their environment, the mechanisation of life, the lowering of the quality of all types of nourishment-both physical and intellectual, mass endorsed apathy to everything only to name a few, and the way in which this is also purported through mass, produced-mass consumed music. Hence the mutual need of the members to escape these widespread mentalities predominant in music making at present and search for new ground on new founding principles, while provoking all listening to abolish these norms within them through an intense sound, analogue effects and rhythmic complexity...
