Using social situations Papamichael portrays her artistic research on the concept of marriage as it is experienced in the social frame. Thoughts, considerations moral musts, supposed values and psychological repression are presented as meanings and concerns filtered through an artistic lens. The exhibition presents the attemptto experience these situations and feelings through painting and this remains the central elementthroughout.
The ceremonial dimension of the social aspect of the wedding becomes the reference point for the happening, which will take place during the inauguration of the exhibition.
For the past few years, Nicoletta Papamichael’s artistic research has been focused atthe representation of herself. In front of a mirror she discovers and reveals all her faces. “Until one day I realised that I am the mirror”. It’s then when the lens of a camera replaces the mirror, that she is led to new paths of exploration. Her work is divided into two sections, each approached in a different way. In the first section the artist appears as a model, posing for the photographer. In the second, she becomes the photographer herself. The lens becomes the extension of her hand limiting the visual field. The whole process of the creation of this work defines Nicoletta’s personal code and specifies the mood of this exposition.
