John Nassari
Return

“Return” is an exhibition of various photographic, and multi-media installation pieces from the international Greek Cypriot artist John Nassari. The exhibition consists of a five art installations, which explore the theme of Cypriot return. Nassari is interested in the experience of “return” and his work is particularly pertinent in relation to the loosening of the border in May 2003 and Cyprus accession into Europe.

John Nassari is a British born Greek Cypriot. He studied photography at the Kent Institute of Art and Design and completed an MA in Teaching Visual Culture at Middlesex University. He is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of East London and is interested in Cypriot exile and identity. He runs an art association called PhotoInsight, which is concerned in exploring issues of migration, cultural difference and identity. www.photoinsight.org.uk

“Return” is unique as it brings together a series of experimental media, which explores contemporary political and social changed in Cyprus. As a third generation Greek Cypriot in London, Nassari’s finds himself as an insider and outsider and blurs the lines between the two. Through various methodologies and forms: autobiography, self-reflection, portraiture, video, audio and painting Nassari becomes the observer and the observed.
