In his work, Dutch artistAldo Kroese [NL, 1976], is looking for answers to questions like: how to visualize the transition between two stages or a movement from A to B? In other words; he shows a process. Movementand time are important factors in these questions. In earlier works, he researched the moment between mortion and stand-still. In the end he found outthatthis moment does not exist, butthe process turned outto be visualy facinating.
Elements like TIMEand MOTION are not just sources of inspiration, buta direct reason to make a work. Sunlight for example, is in a constant motion. By using this element his my work, he visualizes the movement of the earth; a motion that is almosttoo slow to notice, becomes visible.
Another example is the process of growing. By documenting different moments in time, the process becomes visible.
Apart from light, he use air, sound or heatto create movement. Invisible forces with greatabilities. Materials vary from traditional things like paper and wood to plastics and ready made objects.
The end result, the work, is mostly a sculpture or an installation. Some works just exist for a short moment of time. They are created for a special time and place. To show them later, video and photography is used as a form of documentation.
Aboutthe exhibition
On invitation of the Pantheon Cultural Association (Pantheon Gallery), Aldo Kroese takes part in an ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCY program from 01 November 2008 to 01 March 2009. Pantheon provides a studio to work and the gallery to hostan exhibition.
Starting point of the research is water. Being Dutch, Aldo Kroese is confronted with water every day. The people in Holland have a great history if it comes to fighting the threat of water. Nowadays they learned to live with water.
The difference between Hollandand Cyprus on the subject of water is enormous. Holland is threatened by vastamounts of water from the rivers, the rising sea level and an increasing rainfall. Cyprus, on the other hand, is suffering from its absence. During an earlier visitto Cyprus, Aldo became facinated by this contrast.
The ‘water problem’ is a well know, fundamental, global theme. Subjectto many projects and research on different levels.
Aldo's view point, as an artist, is that of an observer. How do the people deal with the ‘problem’in both countries.
This contrast is a source of inspiration, a starting point, for a process of research that results in a variety of works. Water proves to be both an inspiring subjectand agood medium to work with.
The outcome, to be seen atPantheon Gallery in Nicosia, shows temporary sculpture [only existing for a moment] moving sculpture, photo and video.

Definite Events
Definite Events shows the result of athree months residency of Dutch artistAldo Kroese [NL 1976] atthe Pantheon Gallery. Starting point of the residency is the contrast between Hollandand Cyprus on the theme of water. Holland is threatened by vastamounts of water from the rivers, the rising sea level and an increasing rainfall. Cyprus, on the other hand, is suffering from its absence.
Aldo Kroese works with themes like time and movement; he shows a process that often results in a sculpture. The so-called action sculpture sometimes exists for a short momentand is therefore documented by photo or video.
